Hi I have been looking for a Media player that will play my files and have tried many...perhaps that is the problem, because despite uninstalling all tried programs a videoplayer such as Gom (or any player) displays a very dark picture requiring me to set brightness to max....

I have had a very similar problem before but found the level control in ffdshow had somehow been set low giving a dark picture....I dont seem to be able to get the Video icon of FFDSHOW to display in the taskbar so I can click on it to check to see if levels are low...I have run Mplayer that comes as a standalone and also as comes in K-lite Codec Pack.

anyone got any ideas

thanks fos

It seems like you are facing issues with dark video playback on various media players, and you suspect it might be related to the settings in FFDSHOW. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this problem:

Check FFDSHOW Settings:

  1. Access FFDSHOW Configuration: If you are not able to see the FFDSHOW icon in the taskbar, you can access its settings by searching for "FFDSHOW Video Decoder Configuration" in your Start menu or by going to the installation folder of FFDSHOW and running the configuration tool directly.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

  3. Uninstall and Reinstall FFDSHOW: If adjusting the settings does not resolve the issue, consider uninstalling FFDSHOW and then reinstalling it to ensure a clean installation.
  4. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with video playback.
  5. Use a Different Media Player: If the issue persists, try using a different media player to see if the problem is specific to FFDSHOW. You can try popular players like VLC Media Player, PotPlayer, or MPC-HC.
  6. Codec Packs: Sometimes codec packs can conflict with each other. If you have multiple codec packs installed, consider uninstalling all of them and only installing the necessary codecs or using a standalone player that doesn't rely on external codec packs. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the dark video playback issue you are experiencing. Let me know if you need further assistance!
