To enable thumbnail previews for minimized windows on the taskbar in Windows Vista Home Basic, you can try the following steps: 1. Ensure Desktop Composition is Enabled: - Thumbnail previews require the Desktop Window Manager service to be running. To check if it's enabled: - Right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties." - Click on "Advanced system settings" on the left. - Under the "Advanced" tab, make sure the option "Enable desktop composition" is checked. 2. If it's grayed out, you may need to tweak some settings: - Open "Control Panel" and navigate to "System and Maintenance." - Click on "Performance Information and Tools." - Choose "Adjust visual effects." - Ensure the option for "Enable desktop composition" is checked. 3. Update Display Drivers: - Sometimes issues with preview thumbnails can be related to outdated or incompatible display drivers. Consider updating your graphics drivers to the latest version to ensure compatibility. 4. Restart the Desktop Window Manager Service: - You can restart the Desktop Window Manager service to see if that resolves the issue. Here is how: - Press "Win + R" to open the "Run" dialog. - Type services.msc and hit Enter. - Locate the "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" service. - Right-click on it and select "Restart." Try these steps to see if you can enable thumbnail previews for minimized windows on the taskbar. If you continue to encounter issues, let me know so we can explore other solutions.
