Windows Vista Vista Windows wallpaper problem

I have a Compaq laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic operating system. I use personal pictures as my wallpaper and one day it went black. I did have a spyware named "Spy Shredder". Since then I cannot change my wallpaper, I do not have sound, and my system is slow. I did remove the spyware and clean my registry with PC Tools products. Can anyone help?

Is there an option to reset to factory defaults? There usually is with laptops, otherwise try re-installing fresh drivers.
