Every time I attempt to enter something into the Windows Explorer search bar in the start menu or when browsing folders I get an error stating

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

A message then pops up for me to restart Windows Explorer. This error also occurs when I right click on one of my hard drives in my computer. I'm running Windows 7 64bit on a Intel C2D 6400 with 6GB RAM

I've tried running a clean boot but that didn't help, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

    2. Scan for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware or malicious programs that could be causing conflicts.

    3. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates and patches from Microsoft. Sometimes, updating Windows can resolve compatibility issues.

    4. Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Sometimes, third-party software can conflict with the system and cause runtime errors. Try to identify any recent software installations or updates that might coincide with when the issue started occurring.

    5. Perform System File Checker (SFC) Scan:

  • Run an SFC scan to check and repair corrupted system files that could be causing the runtime error.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow

      6. Update Device Drivers:

[]Ensure that your device drivers, especially for your graphics card, are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause runtime errors.

    7. Run System Maintenance:

    [
]Run the built-in Windows system maintenance tools to check for and fix any system errors.
    • Navigate to Control Panel > System and Security > Troubleshoot common computer problems.

      8. Reinstall Problematic Applications:

[]If the issue is specific to certain applications, try reinstalling them to ensure they are not causing the runtime error.

    9. Windows Explorer Troubleshooting:

    [
]If the issue persists with Windows Explorer, you can try resetting Windows Explorer:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Go to the Processes tab and find "Windows Explorer."
    • Right-click on it and select "Restart."

      10. Check Event Viewer for Errors:

  • Check the Event Viewer for any specific error codes related to the runtime error. This can provide more details on the root cause of the issue. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the runtime error you are experiencing in Windows Explorer and with right-clicking on hard drives. If the issue persists, feel free to provide additional details for further assistance.
