Hi

I'm interested in buying a pad computer.
It's something that both myself and my wife have a use for.

It's clear that the iPad 3 is the state of the art pad computer.

But I'd like to have a Windows based pad so I can use the software that I'm familiar with and get for free, like my music player, WinAmp.

And with Windows 8 coming along it seems like it would be the way to go.

So I started looking, I quickly found that there are a few Windows based pads.

The problem is the cost, the iPad 3 costs about $730 for the top of the line model with 4G.
This has a screen resolution higher then my 24" monitor, 2048 by 1536, a 5 megapixel camera and a lot of features that you can't get in another pad. But it doesn't have a USB2 Port or support MP3 files.

But I would still like to have a Windows based unit.

I started looking and found that to get anything close to the iPad I have to pay quite a bit more.

Like the Samsung series 7 Slate. About $1200 and not even close to the iPad specs for screen and camera resolution.

Why so high?

If I could get a high end Windows Pad for around the cost of an iPad I would go that way especially with Widows 8 coming along but I won't pay a lot more for less computer.

Where's the competition?

Mike

Hi Mike, It seems you're interested in a Windows-based tablet that can offer performance similar to the iPad but at a more affordable price point. Your concerns are valid, as the pricing of Windows tablets, especially high-end models, can be higher compared to the iPad due to various factors such as hardware specifications, operating system integration, and brand positioning. Here are a few points to consider when looking for a Windows tablet that can compete with the iPad: 1. Hardware Specifications: The iPad is known for its high-resolution display, camera quality, and overall build quality. To match or exceed these specifications on a Windows tablet, manufacturers need to invest in components that may drive up the cost. 2...

2. Operating System: Windows tablets typically run a full version of Windows, offering more versatility and compatibility with desktop software compared to mobile operating systems like iOS. This can contribute to the higher pricing. 3. Brand Premium: Apple's brand reputation and the ecosystem they offer with iPads can influence pricing. Windows tablets from other manufacturers might not have the same brand recognition or ecosystem, which can impact pricing strategies. 4. Market Competition: While the iPad dominates the tablet market, there are Windows-based alternatives like Microsoft Surface devices or 2-in-1 laptops that offer a balance between performance and price. Shopping around and comparing different models can help you find a Windows tablet that meets your requirements at a competitive price. 5. Windows 8: Considering your interest in Windows 8, which offers a touch-centric interface suitable for tablets, you might want to explore newer Windows tablets released after your initial search to see if there are more affordable options with updated features and specifications. To find a Windows tablet that suits your needs and budget, you can look for promotions, check for refurbished models, compare specifications across different brands, and consider slightly older models that still offer good performance. Additionally, keeping an eye out for deals or discounts during sales seasons can help you save money while getting a quality Windows tablet. If you have specific features or requirements in mind for your Windows tablet, feel free to provide more details so I can help you find suitable options within your preferred price range.
