Just curious to what everyone's "Windows experience index base score"s are and what kind of hardware scores what.
Post your hardware details along with your scores.

Mine scores a 5.0
AMD Athlon X2 4400 2.3 - 5.0
5 gigs (2x2GB + 2x512GB) of Generic DDR2 800 - 6.1
ASUS GeForce 8600GT 512mb - 6.7 Gaming - 5.5
1TB Hitachi 3.0GB/s SATA2 HD - 5.9

It just locks up my T42

When I try and run it it locks up my computer..........
IBM T42
It also locks up if I try to run a game (like hearts or solitare)
Most everything else I have tried works OK

Okay, just a note indicating that since I installed a new SSD, my scores are now 7.8/7.8/7.9/7.9/7.9! From 5.9 HDD to 7.9. And Skyrim has never loaded so fast.

This is illustrative of the fact that the Win7 score system doesn't really say much. Even having such a high-powered CPU as yours gets the same score as my i7-2600k, since the score evaluates the highest core speed, and it must be OCed to a pretty high speed; higher than my 4.4ghz. heh.

I agree with trog69. The Windows index is a general one. If you want to truly test your build, use various specialized benchmark software, like 3DMark for video. Most info about this you can find in several overclockers' forums, just Google them. But if you, in your pursuit for performance points go for overclocking, remember that it usually zeros your warranties. When you get to use liquid nitrogen to cool your CPU in order to press it further... you've gone far.

First, there's no way for them to tell that you've OCed unless you scorch the thing. Since I'm on water-Asetek push/pull dual-fan system-unless the pump goes out while I was stressing the heck out of the CPU, I'm not that worried about my relatively mild OC.

As for other tests, the only one I value is the FPS boost I saw when I first tried Skyrim with the new OCing. Well over 10+ FPS, though that's a bit of overkill for my card. I haven't tried going back to the vanilla clock for The Witcher 2, another CPU-intensive game, but I do think that the OC is why I can use the Uber-Antialiasing setting without going SLI.
