I purchased a new Compaq Presario running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I downloaded and ran the approprite WET on my old Dell Dimension running XP. Since I only have one monitor, I ran the WET on the old computer and saved to an external hard drive. After hooking up the new computer I ran WET on it and while my favorities and many docs are all there, my email contacts and all my old emails are not showing up in Outlook (which i downloaded a 60 day trial version). I used Outlook Express on the Dell. My guess is that they did get moved over, but just not showing up in Outlook. Any ideas how to make the concatcts and old emails show up?

When migrating from Outlook Express on your old Dell Dimension running XP to Outlook on your new Compaq Presario with Windows 7, you may encounter issues with transferring email contacts and old emails. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue and ensure that your contacts and emails appear in Outlook:

Importing Email Contacts and Old Emails into Outlook:

  1. Import Contacts:
    • To import your contacts from Outlook Express to Outlook, follow these steps:
      • Open Outlook on your new computer.
      • Go to "File" > "Open & Export" > "Import/Export."
      • Choose "Import from another program or file" and click "Next."
      • Select "Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, or Windows Mail" and click "Next."
      • Follow the prompts to complete the import process.
    []Import Old Emails:
    • To import your old emails from Outlook Express to Outlook, you can:
      • Export the emails from Outlook Express as .pst files and then import these into Outlook.
      • Copy the Outlook Express email files from the old computer to the new computer and then open them in Outlook.

        Troubleshooting Steps:

    [
    ]Check Import Settings:
    • Ensure that you selected the correct options during the Windows Easy Transfer process to transfer email data.
    []Search for Email Files:
    • Locate the email files copied from the old computer to the external hard drive. Outlook Express emails are typically stored as .dbx files.
    [
    ]Import the .dbx Files:
    • If you find the .dbx files, you can import them directly into Outlook using the following steps:
      • Open Outlook.
      • Go to "File" > "Open & Export" > "Import/Export."
      • Select "Import from another program or file" and choose "Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, or Windows Mail."
      • Follow the on-screen instructions to import the .dbx files into Outlook.
  2. Verify Email Account Setup:
    • Check that your email account is properly set up in the new version of Outlook to ensure that the emails are synchronized.

      Additional Considerations:

      • Make sure to back up all important data before proceeding with any changes to prevent data loss.
      • It's recommended to perform these actions in Outlook while connected to the external hard drive where your old data is stored.
      • If the above steps do not work, you may need to manually locate and import the email files into Outlook.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully import your email contacts and old emails from Outlook Express to Outlook on your new computer.
