I have 5 computers on my network, the names are as follows:
HOME-ND86E0MP1L (XP)
JON-PC (7)
LAPTOP (7)
LILBIT-PC (VISTA)
OFFICE-PC (7) HOST

All are on MS HOME, all are set to share files, and all have Password Protect "DISABLED"

Vista and 7 are having the problems, can't get Vista to permit use of printer and will not permit drive access, also 7 is not permitted to access drives on Vista.
No problems with the XP machine.

Help, thanks

Check Firewall Settings

  1. Check Firewall Settings: Verify that the Windows Firewall or any third-party firewall software is not blocking file sharing. You can either disable the firewall temporarily for testing or create exceptions for File and Printer Sharing in the firewall settings.

    Check Shared Folder Permissions

  2. Share Permissions: Ensure that the folders you want to share have the correct sharing permissions set. Right-click on the folder, go to Properties, then Sharing, and check the permissions.

    Network Sharing, Sharing Same Workgroup

  3. Check Workgroup Settings: Confirm that all computers are part of the same workgroup. To change the workgroup, right-click on Computer, select Properties, then Advanced System Settings, and go to the Computer Name tab.

    Printer Sharing and Device Access

  4. Printer Sharing: For printer sharing, install the printer drivers on the computers that need to access the shared printer. Ensure the printer is shared on the Vista machine and added as a network printer on the Windows 7 machine.

Troubleshooting Specific Issues

  • For Vista not permitting drive access:
    • Check the sharing permissions on the Vista machine for the drives you want to access.
  • For Windows 7 not accessing drives on Vista:
    • Verify that the correct permissions are set on the shared folders and ensure that the Vista machine's network profile is set to Private to allow file sharing.

      Rebooting and Testing

      1. Reboot and Test: After making these changes, restart all the computers and try accessing files and printers again.

        Additional Tips

        • It's recommended to have the latest updates installed on all computers.
        • Ensure all computers are on the same local network (LAN).
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the network sharing issues between your computers running Vista, Windows 7, and XP. Let me know if you need further assistance!
