I cannot believe something as basic as file transfer does not have a solution more than a year after the release of Windows 7. My file transfer speed between two Windows 7 computers over either a wired or wireless connection is literally unuseable. Windows Vista as unstable as it was did not have these problems. I have tried every possible solution posted in the Microsft Knowledge Base and other forums and none of the suggested solutions do anything. I cannot imagine any corporate user ever migrating to a Windows 7 environment if file transfer is an issue. There has to be an easy solution yet I have yet to see it posted anywhere.

Solution
It sounds like you're experiencing frustratingly slow file transfer speeds between two Windows 7 computers, both over wired and wireless connections. Slow file transfers can certainly be a significant hindrance to productivity. While Windows 7 generally provides decent file transfer functionality, there are known issues that can cause slow performance. Here are some steps and solutions you can try to potentially improve your file transfer speeds between your Windows 7 computers:

Wired Connection:

  1. Check Network Configuration:
    • Ensure that both computers are connected to the same network.
    • Verify that your network cables are in good condition and properly connected.
    []Update Network Drivers:

Slow file transfers can certainly be a significant hindrance to productivity. While Windows 7 generally provides decent file transfer functionality, there are known issues that can cause slow performance. Here are some steps and solutions you can try to potentially improve your file transfer speeds between your Windows 7 computers:

Wired Connection:

  1. Check Network Configuration:
    • Ensure that both computers are connected to the same network.
    • Verify that your network cables are in good condition and properly connected.
    []Update Network Drivers:
    • Make sure your network adapters have the latest drivers installed. Outdated drivers can lead to performance issues.
    [
    ]Check Network Speed:
    • Ensure that your network supports Gigabit speeds, especially if you are using Ethernet connections.

      Wireless Connection:

    []Signal Strength:
    • Check the signal strength of your wireless connection. Weak signals can drastically reduce transfer speeds.
    [
    ]Channel Interference:
    • Check for any interference from other devices that might be affecting your Wi-Fi signal.

      General Solutions:

    []Disable Background Applications:
    • Close any unnecessary applications on both computers that might be using network resources.
    [
    ]Use Ethernet Instead of Wi-Fi:
    • If possible, try transferring files over a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for faster speeds.
    []File Size and Type:
    • Larger files will naturally take longer to transfer. Consider compressing files or breaking them into smaller parts for faster transfers.
    [
    ]Use Third-Party Software:
    • Consider using third-party file transfer tools like FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or LAN Speed Test to see if they perform better than the built-in Windows file transfer.
  2. Check Firewall and Antivirus:
    • Temporarily disable any third-party firewall or antivirus software to see if they are affecting transfer speeds. These suggestions aim to tackle the common issues that can cause slow file transfers between Windows 7 computers. If after trying these solutions, you still experience slow speeds, it might be worth looking into more specific network configurations or seeking help from a professional IT technician for further troubleshooting. Let me know if you need more detailed steps for any of the suggestions!
