I have a new ASUS laptop, 4gb RAM, 64bit with Windows 7 pre-installed. I leave it in sleep mode when not in use, so I don't know if this is a new problem or it has been this way all along.

If I restart, or boot all the way off and boot up again, Win 7 will freeze 75% of the time. It usually requires 3 cold boots before it finally loads. I noticed this yesterday after installing some updates from MS. I thought it was the updates so I restored to an earlier config and I was still having the same problem.

Sometimes it will boot just fine, but more often than not, it hangs.

Any clues?

Thanks

    ]Boot in Safe Mode:
    • Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, this might indicate a driver or software problem causing the freezing.
    []Update Drivers and Windows:
    • Ensure that all drivers for your hardware components are up to date. Visit the ASUS website to download the latest drivers for your laptop.
    • Install all Windows updates, including important and optional updates.
    [
    ]Check Event Viewer:
    • Use the Event Viewer tool to check for any error messages or warnings that might indicate the cause of the freezing issue during boot.
    []Run System File Checker (sfc):
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command "sfc /scannow" to scan and repair corrupted system files.
    [
    ]Check for Malware:
    • Perform a full system scan with a reliable antivirus software to check for any malware causing the freezing.
    []Check Hard Drive Health:
    • Use a tool like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of your hard drive for any issues.

    ]Advanced Troubleshooting:
    • If the issue persists, you may need to consider advanced troubleshooting steps like reinstalling Windows 7 or upgrading to a newer version of Windows.

      Additional Tips:

      • Monitor Temperature: Ensure that your laptop isn't overheating, as high temperatures can lead to performance issues.
      • Backup Important Data: It's always a good practice to back up your important data regularly to avoid any data loss during troubleshooting.
By following these steps, you can hopefully pinpoint the cause of the freezing issue during boot and take appropriate actions to resolve it. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions on any of the steps!
