Recently I bought a Windows 7 pc. After years with XP and Vista - and NAS'es Qnap TS-109 and Maxtor Shared Storage Plus - I am suddenly very unsatisfied:( Once every day (or moere) my pc loses contact with the NAS'es. Only way to get connected again is to cut power since restart is not possible (it just hangs). So it works alright for a few hours - and then no connection quite suddenly.

So now I have detached the NAS'es and the problem is gone. But so is the NAS connections of course...

Is there a general Windows 7 problem in regard to NAS'es...? Anyone who knows? If so I must downgrade to Vista or XP...

It seems like you are facing connectivity issues between your Windows 7 PC and your NAS devices, specifically the Qnap TS-109 and Maxtor Shared Storage Plus. The problem you described, where the PC loses contact with the NAS devices, could be due to various reasons such as network configuration, compatibility issues, or settings within Windows 7. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Check Network Settings: - Make sure that the network settings on your Windows 7 PC are correctly configured to communicate with the NAS devices. Check the IP configuration and network sharing settings. 2. Update Network Drivers: - Ensure that the network drivers on your Windows 7 PC are up to...

Check the IP configuration and network sharing settings. 2. Update Network Drivers: - Ensure that the network drivers on your Windows 7 PC are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause connectivity issues. 3. NAS Firmware Update: - Check if there are any firmware updates available for your NAS devices. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues. 4. Disable Power Saving Features: - Disable any power-saving features or settings on your Windows 7 PC that may interfere with the network connection. 5. Check Firewall Settings: - Verify that the firewall settings on your Windows 7 PC are not blocking the NAS connections. You may need to configure the firewall to allow communication with the NAS devices. 6. Use Different Protocols: - Try connecting to the NAS devices using different protocols (e.g., SMB, FTP) to see if one works more reliably than the others. 7. Test with Different Devices: - Connect the NAS devices to a different computer or device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your Windows 7 PC. 8. Network Troubleshooting: - Run network diagnostic tools on your Windows 7 PC to identify any network issues that could be affecting the connection to the NAS devices. By following these steps and troubleshooting the network connections between your Windows 7 PC and the NAS devices, you may be able to pinpoint the issue causing the disconnects. If the problem persists, it's also worth considering reaching out to the NAS manufacturers' support for further assistance or guidance on compatibility with Windows 7.
