Speaking at the company's annual Worldwide Partner Conference, currently being held in Houston, Texas, head of Windows, Tami Reller, revealed that the RTM version of its Windows 8.1 update would be rolling out to Microsoft's manufacturing partners in "late August;"

This sounds reasonable. I have to say I'm glad to see Microsoft not giving an exact day. Getting it right is more important than getting it now. Their updates on the preview have been timely, and I like the desktop support...finally. Very much looking forward to seeing how this version runs once it is tuned. Not sure about anyone else, but my I/O is noticeable slower in 8.1, which I am assuming is simply due to beta/un-tuned code.
