word document disappeard!

hello, i have just upgraded my computer from vista ultimate 64bit to windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
and i had a word document on my desktop and it has disappeared!
it is critical i will get it.
how can i retrieve it?

i wanted to add, i can actually see it on my recent files on word, but if i try to open it it says that file was not found (url to the desktop).
i have to retrieve it.
can anyone help?

txt's are gone as well!

You should have a "windows.old" folder on the compuuter. You can probably recover a few things from there.

where is it?
i couldn't find it on search??

everything is set not to hide but i still cant find it, i also cant access it if i type it in the URL line
