📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses an issue where a USB internet dongle is not recognized in Windows 8 and 8.1 but works in Windows 7, with the user noting an extra drive appears in Windows 7. The user suspects malware related to CDFS seen in Windows 8. A responder explains that CDFS relates to CD file systems or ISO images, suggesting the extra drive might be an ISO file or a misleadingly similar device, but does not identify why the device isn't recognized in Windows 8. The overall tone is technical troubleshooting with suggestions but no definitive solution provided.

Dear Team,

whenever i connect my internet dongle in my laptop USB port,it does not show that any hardware is plugged in or not..
Thats why i am facing problem in connecting to internet.
But the same i checked with window 7,it is showing 1 extra drive whenever hardware plugged in,The ptoblem is only with windows 8 &8.1.
When i inserted hardware in windows 7,file showing its disk drive as CDFS so i think there is some malware related to CDFS in windows 8.
Kindly help me to resolve the problem.
Waiting for your kind response.

Regards,
Anil Kumar

CDFS is the compact disk file system, which is how files are stored on a CD. If a CD image is stored as an iso file, that will also appear as CDFS. The extra disk drive you see is probably a drive that is storing an iso file. Any chance that what you think is a wifi dongle is actually a thumb drive (they can look similar)? As to why the device is recognized in Win 7 but not Win 8, I don't have any ideas there.
