Windows 7 Desktop drive letter shortcuts

I need to add to my question.. I have windows 7 and use virtual cd. I have numerous learning programs for my 3 yr old that virtual cd inserts all of them at once using a snapshot with this program. Along with the current short cuts for the programs on desktop I now have shortcuts to the drives as well confusing my child. These drive icons look the same as his program shortcuts. Is there a way to disable automatic short cuts appearing to these drives on the desktop? I don't know why or when virtual cd ejects all cd's ( maybe during reboot ). I manually delete shortcuts to referring drives but they reappear once cd's are inserted again.
