  • Failed boot 1: Boot normally.
  • Failed boot 2: Boot normally.
  • Failed boot 3: Automatic repair.
  • Failed boot 4: Boot normally again?

In which file does Windows store the information of what mode to boot into?

Solution
The failed boot count is on the system partition or within the BCD datastore itself. When the 3 failed boot threshold is reached automatic recovery is triggered provided the 'recoveryenabled' option is set in BCD
