This script was made for Windows 7 but works perfectly on Windows 8:

Note:
Some say you should never clear the Event Logs but when "I can't see the forrest for the trees", I run this script (as admin).

As you already mention clearing event logs should only be done if your really sure you know what your doing.

As the previous posters say. Probably a good idea to do it manually through the Event viewer, periodically. That gives you a last chance to see if there are any malfunctions.
But a useful .bat file, nevertheless.
