📎 AI Summary:
The user, pstein, is experiencing an issue with Windows 7 not consistently remembering that *.mp4 videos should always open with VLC, despite selecting that option. Despite choosing "Always use VLC" when prompted, the "Open With" dialog reappears for subsequent videos. kemical suggests checking the default program settings in the Control Panel's default programs section to adjust autoplay settings, although no definitive solution is provided.

When I double click in WinExplorer on an *.mp4 video file a popup appears asking me if I want to play the video with a certain program (here with well known VLC video player).

As you can see in the attached snapshot I checked the checkbox to ALWAYS use VLC for opening the video.

BUT: When I double click later another *.mp4 video then the "Open With" dialog re-appears again.

Why is Win 7 not able to remember it really?

Hi,
if you open the control panel and look under default programs you'll see where you can change the autoplay settings.
An image from ''Open with' program NOT remembered although checkbox ticked?'. Windows Default Programs settings window is open, highlighting AutoPlay settings option.
