📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses issues with keyboard settings following users across different machines when using roaming profiles. The original poster questions why keyboard preferences, typically set on individual machines, are roaming with the user's profile, leading to consistent but potentially unwanted configurations. The response explains that keyboard settings are stored within the user’s profile in a roaming setup, ensuring consistency across devices, and suggests alternative approaches if separate machine-specific settings are needed.

We use roaming profiles, and we have an office that has machines with different keyboards. A user will log into his box and have the correct settings, but when he goes to one of the other boxes, his keyboard settings follow him. Is there a reason for this? Isn't the keyboard settings on the machine side?

Solution
When using roaming profiles in a network environment, user settings and configurations are stored centrally on the server rather than locally on individual machines. This allows users to have a consistent experience regardless of which machine they log into. In the case of keyboard settings, they are typically stored as part of the user's profile settings, which are synchronized across different machines when roaming profiles are enabled. This means that when a user logs into a different machine, their personalized settings, including keyboard settings, are applied based on their user profile stored on the server.

The keyboard settings are not solely determined by the machine itself but rather are part of the user's profile settings that are retrieved and applied when the user logs into any machine within the network that uses roaming profiles. This behavior ensures consistency for users and allows them to have their customized settings available on any machine they use.
If you want to maintain different keyboard settings for users on different machines, you may need to explore alternative solutions such as using local profiles or implementing specific configurations at the machine level that override the roaming profile settings for keyboard configurations.
