📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses whether a Windows 8.1 upgrade key from an old PC can be reused on a new PC. The consensus suggests that typically, a Windows key is tied to a single device, but one user shares that calling Microsoft and explaining the situation might allow reuse. Another user confirms that uninstalling Windows from the old PC could enable reusing the key on a new device, provided both Windows versions are removed first. Overall, the sentiment indicates that reuse is generally discouraged but may be possible with Microsoft’s assistance.

I have Windows 8.1 installed on my old pc with Windows 8 upgrade key. I'm wondering can I reuse the same Windows key on my new pc if I uninstall windows on the old one?

I ran into this issue with one of the OS's. I called Microsoft and they helped me out. You just have to explain to them what your doing. At least that worked a few years ago.

If you uninstall both win 8.1 and then win 8 from the old pc, then yes, you can use the win 8 upgrade key on a new pc again.
