Places can benefit for the same reason. An address, opening-hours status, map preview, and contact information are typically more useful as a visual object than as prose embedded in a chat response.

Less prompt engineering for everyday questions​

The promise of model-driven placement is that users may not need to know whether a question should be phrased as a “search,” a “chat,” a “research task,” or a specific command. They can ask naturally, then receive the appropriate information format.
This could help reduce the artificial divide between productivity assistance and public-information retrieval. But the product will be judged less by the existence of cards than by their discipline. They must make it obvious when information is current, where it came from, and how a user can go deeper.
If Microsoft gets those fundamentals right, the August rollout could make Microsoft 365 Copilot feel less like a tool that merely writes answers and more like a practical interface for navigating the information that surrounds modern work.
