📎 AI Summary:
The original poster reports difficulty restarting servers, often receiving an error indicating the computer name is invalid (error 53), and questions whether this is related to user connections or the need to use FQDN. A respondent explains that the shutdown command must originate from within the targeted server for it to work directly, noting that remote management tools record settings to allow remote actions as safeguards. The overall sentiment suggests a troubleshooting focus on proper command execution and understanding remote management protocols.

Most of the time when I add multiple servers or even single server to restart it won't work. Shows computer name is not valid and in parentheses no 53. Is this since users are connected or do I need to enter fqdn.

code: the shutdown command for a server has to come from within that server... this is not something over looked but as a safeguard. Programs like the Microsoft remote management (and whatever vmware calles their one) record the settings so they can act as the server from outside.
