The Lifehacker site doesn't say any of these are Win7 compatible. Are they?

Agreed. Although the LifeHacker list picks the top programs from all those lists that I would download personally.
Additionally, I cannot recommend Comodo Firewall enough.

Oddly it never listed a decent defrag app....I'd suggest Auslogic's is the best replacement for the old dog that MS made internally.
