📎 AI Summary:
The thread is about disabling the Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail “preview” pop-ups that appear when hovering over a program. The main question is whether they can be fully removed or controlled via the Registry (including adjusting the hover delay). The resolution is that previews can be effectively prevented by setting a very high mouse hover time in the Registry, and overall sentiment shifts from annoyance to relief once the fix is found.

Want to get rid of Preview windows

When I hover the mouse pointer over a program on the task bar, a small pop-up window opens that has the name of the program and an X (which allows me to close the program, though right-clicking is how I prefer to do it). I find these pop-up windows very annoying. Can I get rid of them?

If there is no way to get rid of them, then there must be a parameter in the Registry which controls the delay before they open. If so, I would increase that delay considerably. I hope someone can help. Thank you.

I just figured out that what I am talking about is the PREVIEW window. I am running Windows 7 in the Classic look, and I'm not getting any previews in that window, so it serves no purpose. I just want to get rid of it altogether.

Okay, false alarm. I just figured out how to do it. I increased the mouse hover time (in the Registry) to such a high number (1000000, or 16.6 minutes) that the Preview windows will never show. Thanks all.
