Windows 7 How to restore from backup

Had a HDD failure - just replaced it and a clean install of W7 32 bit.

I had been carrying out regular backups using Backup wizard ... and a have a recent backup set ... how do I restore form that.

Alternatively I have a separate backup of my documents etc. .... as a straight save .... would I be better to just drag them back onto new build and not bother with restore

Nope ... even the very first does not work there is nothing called "system & maintenance"
There is a "system & security" ... but only option there is to restore form a backup option ... this sis a clean install so there isn't ione.
I want o back up form a system image store on external HDD

It does not give you option to go to another HDD ... it does give option of a network but my extn drive is USB not network drive.
