Playground Games has broken its silence on Forza Horizon 6. On October 6, 2026, the studio posted a short note to its community. It admitted that it hasn't been talking with players enough and said it is weighing changes. The note is a public acknowledgment, not a roadmap.

What Playground actually said

In a statement shared on Oct. 6, the studio said it is reading community comments and is looking into future changes to both in-game content and how it communicates with players. The post opens with "Hey Horizon Community." It says the team realizes it hasn't been talking with players as much as it could. It adds that the studio keeps delivering regular content and fixes. It closes with "Stay tuned!"

The important part is what the post leaves out. The company has not confirmed or committed to any changes yet. The post names no feature, date or communication schedule. It doesn't say whether the Forza Monthly show will return. It doesn't say whether voice chat or any other missing feature is under consideration.

What players are upset about

IGN Africa traced the frustration to videos from Forza creators including STEVIO2175, AR12Gaming, HokiHoshi and Ericship 111. These are creator opinions, not a measured survey of the player base. STEVIO2175's late-August video described developer engagement as "nonexistent." The concerns reported across coverage include:

  • Communication. Players complain about a lack of developer engagement. Traxion describes a shift away from livestreams, video explainers and developer personalities. It says the studio instead relies on long website posts to announce new content.
  • Playlist content. Dot Esports says the complaints include samey monthly Playlist updates that bring old cars under the guise of something new, and repetitive late-game content.
  • Missing social features. IGN reports that players want in-game voice chat. STEVIO2175 argues that replayability beyond single-player is limited without social features.
  • Street racing. Pure Xbox says some of the most upvoted threads in the Forza Horizon Reddit community concern the lack of street racing and updates that add little to the base experience. That paraphrases the site's own reading of Reddit.
  • Timed cars. ConsoleCreatures quotes Reddit users who want the FOMO around timed cars removed. That is one outlet's sample of comments, not a representative one.

Scheduled updates are not a reply

The timing is easy to misread. The Series 6 update, Horizon Meets, was released immediately before the statement. It adds a temporary 7-Eleven Car Meet, three new-to-Horizon cars, another Treasure Car, 200 Horizon Play levels and more Spec Racing cars. Pure Xbox had previewed it as arriving that Thursday.

Dot Esports also notes the next update, City Life, will add two permanent race routes in Tokyo and three new-to-Horizon cars. It stresses that both updates were planned before the statement and aren't necessarily responses to the recent criticism. So the content pipeline is real, but it shouldn't be counted as the studio's answer to the feedback.

The Forza Feedback Portal is still the official channel for bugs and feature requests. Dot Esports points out that the portal can't give what players say they are missing. That is regular communication back from the studio about what it is considering and acting on.

PS5 timing: official words versus reports

Playground's official FAQ says the game launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026. It lists PlayStation 5 for "later this year" without a date. That is the official position as of this writing.

IGN's claim that a 2026 PS5 release looks "increasingly unlikely" is the outlet's speculation. Instant Gaming's news site cites a report by The Verge's Tom Warren. It says the PS5 version will be pushed back to early 2027. That report rests on unnamed sources and is dated September 8. Playground has not confirmed a delay. Treat the PS5 date as unannounced.

Caution on the "why"

IGN raises two possible causes for the quiet. One is Xbox leadership changes and layoffs. The other is Fable pulling resources away from Horizon. Pure Xbox offers a similar view, saying the team looks stretched a bit too thin. These are outlet theories. Playground has not said that staffing, restructuring or Fable caused the communication gap. Fable is due on February 23, 2027, per IGN. Another outlet says it was delayed from Fall 2026 to February 2027.

Dot Esports adds a separate, unresolved thread. Japanese players and itasha creators reported removed anime-themed liveries and account or hardware bans in September. Dot Esports says Playground still hasn't publicly addressed those complaints.

Why this matters for Xbox and PC players

Forza Horizon 6 is a first-party Microsoft title on Xbox and Windows. It launched on Game Pass and Steam, and live-service support is part of what players get. VGTimes reports that the Steam daily peak has fallen to around 19,000 players from more than 302,000 at launch. That is a single outlet's figure and hasn't been independently checked. Falling Steam numbers are common for big releases months after launch, so the drop doesn't prove the criticism is behind it.

What to watch next

Playground's note is a promise to think, not a promise to deliver. These are the signs that would show follow-through:

  1. A dated communication plan, such as a returning Forza Monthly or regular developer posts.
  2. Specific changes to the Festival Playlist model or how timed cars are distributed.
  3. A public position on voice chat and street-racing content.
  4. A confirmed PS5 date, or an updated window.
  5. A response on the livery-moderation complaints.

Until some of that appears, the accurate summary is that Playground has acknowledged the problem and committed to nothing specific.
