A lone figure explores a dark, wrecked spacecraft corridor, with a cracked window overlooking a planet and debris.
Mouthwashing, the PS1-styled horror game that first launched on Steam in 2024, is scheduled to reach consoles on October 29, 2026. For Microsoft readers the useful part is Xbox: the game is also confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One and Xbox on PC. Two of the stories submitted (GameTrader.SG and GameLuster) put the headline on PlayStation and Switch, so they miss most of that.

A lone figure explores a dark, wrecked spacecraft corridor, with a cracked window overlooking a planet and debris. What is confirmed

Xbox Wire's announcement says Mouthwashing launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass on October 29, 2026. The post also says it arrives day one with Game Pass. That post is a publisher announcement, not independent reporting. The news came out during the ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase on Tuesday, October 20.

The two submitted stories give the wider platform picture:

  • GameTrader.SG says the publisher CRITICAL REFLEX and developer Wrong Organ have confirmed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for 29 October 2026. It adds a PC port through the Microsoft Store.
  • GameLuster dates the console announcement to October 20, via a new trailer from the Critical Reflex showcase. It lists PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series and PC via the Microsoft Store.
  • Gematsu, whose report GameTrader cites, lists the same platforms. It also says Xbox Wire's own wording is "Xbox on PC", which doesn't name a storefront. Treat the Microsoft Store detail as reported by Gematsu and the two outlets, not as something Xbox Wire states.

The Game Pass detail

Xbox Wire's announcement says "Xbox Game Pass" without naming a plan. A second Xbox Wire post on the Game Pass lineup, as described by WindowsForum's own earlier coverage, lists Mouthwashing for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld and PC, under Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass. Techtroduce's roundup of the same wave gives the same tiers and platforms, with handheld support also listed.

Xbox One is the odd one out. The Game Pass post doesn't mention Xbox One, while the showcase recap and announcement do. If you're on an Xbox One, check the store page on launch day before assuming a Game Pass download.

Background

The game follows the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter, the Tulpar. Xbox Wire says it has sold more than 800,000 copies on Steam and won multiple awards. That is a publisher figure. GameLuster cites a different number, "reportedly" more than 500,000 PC copies, so the sales claims are inconsistent across sources. Gematsu and both submitted stories agree the original Steam launch was September 26, 2024.

GameLuster also says the game reportedly holds an 88 aggregate Metacritic score and sold for 7.67 euros on PC. Those are its claims, and I haven't verified them elsewhere. GameTrader.SG adds that a playthrough takes two to three hours. That is also unverified here, though it is relevant to anyone deciding whether Game Pass or a purchase makes more sense.

Practical takeaways

  • Game Pass subscribers: put October 29 on your calendar. Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass are the tiers listed.
  • PC players: the game has been on Steam since 2024. A Windows or Xbox-app version is coming on the same date, and the Microsoft Store detail is only reported, not confirmed by Xbox Wire.
  • Xbox One owners: Xbox Wire names your console, but the Game Pass lineup post doesn't. Verify before launch day.
  • Buyers outside Game Pass: no console price has been announced in these reports. Wait for the store listings.
  • Collectors: Fangamer is reported to be handling physical copies for PS5 and Switch. No Xbox physical edition was mentioned.

The release is still ahead of us, so nothing here describes how the console versions play. The sources say nothing about performance, resolution, cross-save or Play Anywhere support, so I'm not guessing at them.
