What well-reviewed Windows 11 software successfully creates a .img file from a disk for no cost? I already have many softwares that create their own proprietary image files in Windows, but not a Disk.img file. Linux Gnome Disks creates Disk.img files, but that is not in Windows. I am asking for...
Hello, my goal is to replace all bytes on a disk with 0s with a single pass. I have done this many times, but yesterday, I read that I can do it faster with a larger block size 4096. My understanding is, if I use Diskpart or other terminal program to format the entire disk slowly, it will...

Windows 7 destroyed itself using AUTOCHK without warning on boot twice, where after the second time, even the Windows repair DVD could not help.
After the first chkdsk on boot (autochk), some pictures on my SD card and on the PC itself were unreadable. When I opened the photo files using...

On one of my (older) computers there is a defect sector on the hard disk.
Checking the surface of the hard disk shows a red square for it.
It seems to me that all the "usual" reserve sectors are already in use.
Every thing else works on this computer. No unusual noise comes from the hard disk...

I guess I'll start with what gave birth to this problem: I was curious about OpenSUSE so I thought I'd try it out, I dual booted Windows with OpenSUSE and everything was fine, I gave it a go, exactly what I wanted to do, and then I was done with it. In the process of installing OpenSUSE however...

I create a new system image every week on a secondary internal drive. Do I need to make a new system repair disc too, or will the existing one continue to function?
I think this experience may be useful to Win7/8 users who build and maintain home and small business systems. I regularly clone and swap drives keeping at least one spare at the ready per system at all times. I was shocked to discover that under certain conditions Win7 installation creates a...

I've tried for the past two days issuing everything I know to get a copy of Windows running on my computer.
Things to know:
-I'm planning on dual-booting with Linux.
-It is a desktop.
-I have access to a Linux machine that is currently running.
-I have the Digital River copy of Home Premium x64...

I've got an out of warranty drive that has a bunch of bad sectors, which I'm going to replace with a new drive. The fact that the drive still works (after doing chkdsk) raises a question in my mind about a program called Hard Drive Regenerator.

I just used the folder sync function of TI to move a few hundred video files from one drive to another, it worked as expected except that when checking the target drive after completion, it was highly fragmented, and it looks as though it is going to take many hours for defragging.

I discovered what is called the $RECYCLE.BIN on a SimpleTech portable disk drive I use. It does not show up in the disk folder/file listing, but I can scan for it in the 'Find' routine (*recycle*.*)). What I am concerned with is that it may contain deleted files that need to be purged, but I...
