rotation

I have a number of MP4s which were taken with a cell phone. They have various rotation values. When I view them in various video players (VLC, Windows Media Player, even WinAmp, etc) they all actually play it in different orientations. Obviously they are all treating the rotation metadata...

I don't know what's been pressed but the screen has gone on it's side, can someone tell me how to rectify this please?

I want to turn upside down the picture on the moniter. We could do that before in XP but just upgraded to Windows 7 and it will not work. We have tried the I rotate 1.37 XP/Vista?win7 with no luck. Any suggestions????
