I have implemented a method to 'hide' external USB backup drives from Windows.
The process works as follows:
- use Device Manager to determine the Hardware ID or Parent ID of the USB drive
- label the USB drive appropriately
- create a script to invoke Removedrive (freeware by Uwe Sieber) with...
Seems to be several opinions on this as I Google, so thought to ask you all here as well for your thoughts.

Hi folks. Been Googling quite a bit and cannot find the practical differences between using two external USB drives as RAID 1 OR as a mirrored Storage Space. Can anyone tell me which is preferred and why?
Thanks!

I'm running a home domain network with Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, a couple of other servers, three desktops and three laptops and a tablet running Win 10 Pro, and some android tablets and smartphones with an ASUS RT-87R router with attached USB hard drive.
I just recently realized that...
I have read several articles, but I seem to be lost. I just purchased a refurbished Dell with Windows 7 Sp1 and wanted to create a system repair USB. I followed several how-tos and downloaded the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. I did not receive disks with my purchase and I have windows 7 pro...
Hello Everyone!
Recently from past 1 month I've been facing a problem after my Win10 update i.e I'm unable to copy or move any file from my Laptop to any of my External HDs. I am also unable to format those External HDs. I've tried everything; copy paste, drag & drop etc. I've even tried...
I'm running 32-bit Windows 10 Pro on a Toshiba Encore 2, model WT10-A tablet. I can always boot it successfully from any UEFI USB flash drive (both 2.0 & 3.0), but when I insert either type when running Windows -- although they show up in both the Device Manager and the Disk Manager -- they...
Hi,
I have a problem: my empty USB drives suddenly stop show in Computer window of my Win 7 Pro SP1 PC.
If I insert, say, flash USB drive in the USB slot, it is immediately displayed in the window, and all works just fine. I remove it, and the icon vanishes.
In Folder Options I have 'Show all...

After I connected my portable HDD to a smart TV I lost access to the HDD when I tried to connected it to my laptop again. "F: is not accessible, access is denied" (funny ringtones)
When I connected back to the smart tv I can read all the folders and files on the HDD.
It looks...

Assume I perform a certain program (in background) which acquires a lot of memory.
As an example think of a chkdsk run for an external USB hard disk which uses 6 Gb out of 8 GB physical RAM over a period of hours.
This extra ordinary memory consumption slows down the "normal" usage...
Win10 closes File Explorer immediately when I right click a file, folder, or, drive. Thus, I am unable to eject USB drives and everything else. Very annoying!!! Any ideas?
So I have various desktops and all have more or less the same issue. In the root of each drive there are randomly named folders generated. Names like:

You can now create your own installation media now that the official links have been made available by Microsoft. This media creation tool can be used to build USB install drives or get ISOs to burn on DVDs.

I made a system copy on an external USB disk, then a repair disk on CD. Because there are more system copies on that USB disk I made a new directory and moved the system copy into that directory. Nothing new, all has been done before.
