I have taken ownership but not all the files were switched over. Basically my music and pictures. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Solution
It seems like you're facing an access issue with a second HDD on a shared Windows 7 system after turning off HomeGroup. To ensure you regain access to all files, including your music and pictures, you can try the following steps:

Steps to Fix Access Issue on a Second HDD:

  1. Ensure Ownership:
    • Make sure you have taken ownership of the entire disk and not just specific folders. This can be done by:
      • Right-click on the drive and choose "Properties."
      • Navigate to the "Security" tab, click on "Advanced," and then on the "Owner" tab to change ownership.
    []Adjust Permissions:
    • After taking ownership, adjust the permissions to ensure full access.

      • Add your user account with full control permissions.
    [
    ]Apply Permissions to All Subfolders:
    • To ensure access to all folders and files, you may need to propagate permissions.
      • In the "Advanced Security Settings," check the box "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object."
    []Check Specific Folders:
    • For folders like "Music" and "Pictures" where access is still denied, you might need to apply the same ownership and permission settings to these specific folders.
    [
    ]Reboot and Test Access:
    • Restart your system after making these changes to ensure they take effect. Try accessing your music and pictures folders again.

      Additional Tips:

      • If any files are still inaccessible after these steps, consider using a data recovery tool to retrieve them.
      • Ensure your antivirus software is not blocking access to these folders.
By following these steps, you should be able to regain access to your music and pictures on the second HDD. Let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions!
