Can anyone point me in the direction of information about whether it is possible to access my Win7 HTPC remotely to initiate torrent downloads?

Try Using VNC
There Are Many Programs Like RealVNC Or TightVNC They All Work
But IF Your Not On The Same Network You Will Have To Do Some Portforwarding
