I have two computers on my home network. One is a Mac and the other is a PC that is dual booted with Windows XP and now Windows 7. Everything works fine when I boot to the XP system and the PC computer and shared files show up as being available on the Mac. When I boot to the Windows 7 system, no PC computer is ever available or the files that I am sharing. Both the XP and Windows 7 systems are showing as having the same IP address. Is there anything that I need to do special to share the Windows 7 PC or files. I have tried everything that I can find.

Thanks

It seems like you are experiencing issues with sharing files between your Mac and a dual-booted PC running Windows XP and Windows 7. Since the shared files are visible when the PC is booted to Windows XP but not Windows 7, there might be some configuration settings specific to Windows 7 that need to be adjusted to enable file sharing. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue of file sharing between your Mac and the Windows 7 system:

Check Network Discovery and File Sharing Settings in Windows 7

  1. Enable Network Discovery:
    • Go to "Control Panel" > "Network and Sharing Center."
    • Click on "Change advanced sharing settings."

    • Make sure that "Network discovery" is turned on.
    []Enable File and Printer Sharing:
    • In the same "Advanced sharing settings" window, ensure that "File and printer sharing" is enabled.
    [
    ]Check HomeGroup settings:
    • If you are using HomeGroup for file sharing, ensure that the HomeGroup settings are correctly configured on the Windows 7 system.

      Configure Shared Folders and Permissions

    []Shared Folders:
    • Make sure that the folders you want to share are set up for sharing on the Windows 7 system.
    [
    ]Permissions:
    • Check the permissions of the shared folders to ensure that they can be accessed by other devices on the network.

      Ensure Proper Workgroup Configuration

    []Workgroup Settings:
    • Confirm that both the Windows 7 system and the Mac are in the same workgroup. You can check and modify the workgroup settings in the Control Panel under System settings.

      Disable IPv6 (if necessary)

    [
    ]IPv6 Settings:
    • If there are issues with IPv6, consider disabling IPv6 on the Windows 7 system temporarily to see if it improves network visibility.

      Firewall and Security Software

    []Firewall Settings:
    • Check the Windows Firewall settings to ensure that file sharing is allowed.
    • If you have third-party security software installed on Windows 7, make sure it is not blocking file sharing.

      Miscellaneous

    [
    ]Reboot:
    • Sometimes a simple reboot of both systems can resolve network sharing issues. After going through these steps, try accessing the shared files from your Mac again while Windows 7 is booted. If the issue persists, you may need to further troubleshoot network settings and configurations. Let me know if you need more specific guidance on any of these steps or if you encounter any specific error messages while trying to access shared files.
