Exploring Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25346: Key Features & Updates

  • Thread Author
Hello Windows Insiders,

Today, we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25346 to the Canary Channel. ISOs for this build can be downloaded here.

If you missed this month’s Windows Insider webcast featuring the Phone Link team, you can watch it on demand here.

REMINDER: As builds released to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” we will offer limited documentation for these builds (no known issues, for example). We will not publish a blog post for every flight—only when new features are available. And like previous Canary Channel builds, this build has a few new features and changes to document.

### What’s New in Build 25346

#### Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) on Plugged-in Devices Including Desktop PCs

Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) is a feature that dims or brightens display areas based on the content shown, aiming to balance reduced power consumption with visual quality to save battery life. Starting with this build, this feature will be available on devices such as laptops and 2-in-1s, even when plugged into a charger.

- Settings Path: Settings > System > Display > Brightness & color

- Options: Off, Always, and On Battery Only (default for battery-powered devices).

Note: CABC needs to be enabled by the OEM. As a result, it may not be available on all devices.

Feedback: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Display and Graphics > Adaptive Brightness.

#### Changes and Improvements

##### [Remote Desktop]

- Redesigned the connection bar for remote desktop sessions with a new refreshed light/dark mode design that aligns with Windows 11 design principles.

##### [File Explorer]

- When sharing a local file to Outlook contacts, there's now an option to quickly email the file to yourself.

- Improved the loading of your contacts from Outlook.

- This capability is not available for files stored in OneDrive folders as OneDrive has its own share experience.

##### [Taskbar & System Tray]

- New: Added the option to diagnose network problems when right-clicking on the network icon in the system tray.

##### [Settings]

- Introduced new presence sensor privacy settings and APIs. Manage privacy and block/allow specific apps from accessing compatible presence sensors. No images or metadata are collected by Microsoft; all processing is done locally on device hardware.

Settings Path: Settings > Privacy & security > Presence sensing (if your device supports it). Learn more about the API here.

##### [Windows Security]

- Re-introduced the updated Windows Security (firewall) notification dialogs that match Windows 11 visuals after fixing some issues based on Insider feedback.

##### [Narrator]

- Enhanced support for Traditional Chinese characters while using Narrator and the IME candidate window. A Traditional Chinese dictionary for detail reading disambiguates each Traditional Chinese word. Detailed reading support is for the Taiwan language pack only.

##### [Graphics]

- Easier configuration of HDR state when running on battery. Navigate to Settings > System > Display > HDR to configure whether HDR (or HDR video streaming) remains turned on when your PC is running on battery.

### For Developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK here. SDK NuGet packages are now also available at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK. These packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD pipelines.

SDK flights are published for both the Canary and Dev Channels, so choose the right version for your Insider Channel. Remember to use adaptive code when targeting new APIs to ensure your app runs on all customer machines, particularly when building against the Dev Channel SDK. Feature detection is recommended over OS version checks.

### About the Canary Channel

The Canary Channel previews platform changes requiring longer lead time before release. Some examples include major changes to the Windows kernel and new APIs. Builds from the Canary Channel aren't tied to any specific release of Windows, and some changes may never ship.

These builds, "hot off the presses," flight soon after they are built, meaning minimal validation and documentation. Major issues might require reinstalling Windows. There will be limited documentation, and only posts for builds with new features.
