Hello I notice a irritating lag in the mic input, especially when I plug in my electric guitar's amp into the mic in. There is a delay for about 1 sec. No such delay on Vista or XP. Any ideas? This is the only thing that prevents me from going to W7

Solution
The lag or delay you are experiencing with the microphone input on Windows 7 when connecting your electric guitar's amp is likely due to the settings related to audio input processing. Here are a few steps you can take to try to resolve this issue:

Adjust Audio Settings:

  1. Check Latency Settings:
    • Open the Sound settings by right-clicking the speaker icon in the system tray and selecting "Recording devices."
    • Choose your recording device (microphone in this case) and go to Properties.
    • Check the "Advanced" tab for any latency settings and try adjusting them to reduce the delay.
    []Driver Updates:
    • Ensure that your sound card drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause delays...

    ]Buffer Size:
    • Adjusting the buffer size in the audio settings can sometimes help reduce latency. You can adjust this in the audio settings of your recording device.
    []Exclusive Mode:
    • In the Properties of your recording device, under the "Advanced" tab, uncheck the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and see if it helps.
    [
    ]Software:
    • Consider using dedicated audio recording software that allows for more customization of latency settings.

      Additional Tips:

    • Compatibility Mode:
    • You can try running the application or software you are using in Windows 7 in compatibility mode for Vista or XP. Right-click the application shortcut, go to Properties, and in the Compatibility tab, choose the appropriate mode.
    • ASIO Drivers:
    • If you are using audio production software or recording tools, consider using ASIO drivers. ASIO drivers are known for low latency and high performance in audio processing.
    • External Audio Interface:
    • Investing in an external audio interface designed for recording instruments can also improve the audio quality and reduce latency. By adjusting these settings and exploring these options, you should be able to reduce the lag and enjoy a smoother experience with your electric guitar's amp on Windows 7.
