I have been getting buffer overload indications since installing SP1 on February 23, 2011. I experience it listening to videos on various news websites and to podcasts in iTunes.

Here is what happens:

- the pointer freezes,
- a lound audio feedback signal is heard with very slow audio from the video in the background.
- it sometimes clears itself in as early as 15 seconds, but often longer.
- if it doesn't clear itself, holding down Crtl-Alt-Delete for about 5 seconds will clear it and take you to a menu screen. Just click the Cancel button to get back to normal.

1. Has anyone else experienced this after SP1 installation?
2. Does anyone know what buffers are involved and how to increase them?

It seems like you are experiencing buffer overload issues after installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) on February 23, 2011. This issue occurs while listening to videos on news websites and podcasts in iTunes, leading to freezing of the pointer, loud audio feedback signals, and slow audio playback. Here are some insights into your concerns:

Buffer Overload Issues after SP1 Installation:

  1. Common Experience Post-SP1:
    • It's essential to determine if other users have encountered similar buffer overload issues after installing SP1. This can help identify if the problem is widespread or specific to your setup.

      Understanding Buffers and Potential Solutions:

  2. Buffers Involved and Adjustment:
    • Audio Buffer: The issue might be related to the audio buffer. Buffers store data temporarily during data transfers, ensuring a smooth playback experience without interruptions.
    • Increasing Buffers:
      • While adjusting buffers can sometimes help resolve playback issues, it's crucial to understand the settings and how they can impact performance.
      • Specific applications like iTunes or browser plugins may have settings to adjust buffer sizes.
      • It's recommended to proceed with caution when modifying buffer settings, as incorrect adjustments can lead to other performance issues.

        Recommendations for Troubleshooting:

To address your concerns effectively, consider the following steps:
        • Check for Updates: Ensure your system, drivers, and applications are up to date.
        • Application Settings: Look for buffer-related settings in applications like iTunes or your browser to adjust buffer sizes if available.
        • Hardware Compatibility: Verify that your hardware is compatible with SP1 and meets the system requirements.
        • Monitor System Performance: Use monitoring tools to track resource usage and identify any patterns during buffer overload incidents.

        Additional Assistance:

If you require further assistance with identifying specific buffers involved or adjusting buffer settings, feel free to provide more details about your system configuration, applications, or any error logs for a more tailored solution.
