Windows 7 Backup & Restore

Just bought a 1TB external hard drive for use to back up files and system. Now, i understand Windows 7 backup will not back up Program Files and System files even if they are selected, instead that i done by creating a system image. Am i correct in saying that when i go to 'Let me choose' in the backup if a folder is greyed out it means that Windows will not backup that particular folder it up even if it is selected??

Why not just do a full backup daily, in fact you can schedule it to e done while sleeping you can also just have it save the one backup instead of having numerous backups. This is what I do In W7 Go to Backup and restore then Manage space, this allows you just to keep the most current backup. that way you can schedule a full back up daily while you are sleeping or other wise occupied.

Sure but do the greyed out boxed indicate that they cannot be backed up by checking them? I.e. Program files, system files etc??
