Hi, originally I was using the windows 7 Beta. I then decided to upgrade to the RC, build 7100. I had a few files that I wanted to transfer, and so I decided to use the Beta's built-in backup utility. It used 9 DVDs, and now, in the 7100 build, it's restore utility won't recognize the DVDs. Is there a version incompatibility? Is there any way for me to restore the old files?

It seems like you are facing an issue with restoring files from the backup created in Windows 7 Beta using the built-in utility to the RC build 7100. The problem you are encountering might be due to version incompatibility between the backup created in the Beta version and the restore utility in the RC build. Here are a few steps you can try to restore your old files: 1. Manual Restore: If the built-in restore utility is not recognizing the DVDs, you can try to manually access the data on the DVDs. You can copy the files from the DVDs to your hard drive and then retrieve the necessary files. 2. Third-Party Software: Use third-party backup and restore software that supports restoring files from Windows 7 Beta backups on a different Windows 7 version. There are tools available that can help you extract data from Windows backup files. 3. Compatibility Mode: Try running the restore utility in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 Beta. Right-click on the utility executable, go to Properties, and then the Compatibility tab to set it to run in compatibility mode. 4. Virtual Machine: If none of the above methods work, you can create a virtual machine with Windows 7 Beta installed on it and then restore the backup within that virtual environment. 5. Extracting Files: You can manually extract files from the backup using tools like 7-Zip, which can sometimes extract data from Windows backup files. Try these steps and see if you can successfully retrieve your old files. It's essential to keep multiple backups of important data and ensure compatibility when upgrading or changing operating system versions.
