I have two computers that have 7 Pro connected via homegroup, I want upgrade to Ultimate for bitlocker, will the computers still be able to connect via homegroup with bitlocker enabled.
I am trying to encrypt my offline files which I am able to do through the sync center, but the files are still readable offline and require no password to access, am I doing something wrong

Solution
Upgrading from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate to enable BitLocker encryption should not affect the ability of the computers to connect via HomeGroup. HomeGroup and BitLocker encryption are two different features that can work together without issues. Here's a breakdown of your two concerns:
  1. HomeGroup Connectivity: Upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate to enable BitLocker encryption should not disrupt the HomeGroup connection between the computers. As long as both computers are still running Windows 7, the HomeGroup feature should continue to work as expected.
  2. BitLocker Offline File Encryption: Encrypting your offline files using BitLocker is the right step for securing your data. However, if you're finding...
Upgrading from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate to enable BitLocker encryption should not affect the ability of the computers to connect via HomeGroup. 2. BitLocker Offline File Encryption: Encrypting your offline files using BitLocker is the right step for securing your data. However, if you're finding that the files are still readable offline without requiring a password, there might be a misconfiguration or an issue with how you're setting up BitLocker. To ensure that your files are properly protected and require a password to access offline, you need to follow these steps:
    • Encrypting Offline Files with BitLocker: When you encrypt a drive with BitLocker, you should set a password or use a smart card to unlock the drive. This ensures that the data on the drive is protected.
    • Locking the Drive: Make sure that after encrypting your files with BitLocker, you properly lock the drive when you're not using it. This prevents unauthorized access to the encrypted data.
    • Require Password on Startup: You can configure BitLocker to require a password or a USB key for authentication when the system boots up. This ensures that even if someone gains physical access to your computer, they cannot access your data without the required credentials.
If your files are still readable offline without any password prompt, it's essential to review your BitLocker settings and ensure that the encryption is set up correctly with the appropriate authentication methods. If you need further assistance in configuring BitLocker or troubleshooting the encryption process, feel free to provide more details about the steps you've followed, and I can help you with the specific settings required to secure your offline files effectively.
