I have a clean win 7 installation running for a couple of weeks and all is running swimmingly so far save for one nagging little issue that I would like some help in resolving if anyone can offer it!

The problem is that when the screen greys out, such as when a user account control box pops up, the screen will first go black for a second and then show the grey box.

Then once the screen is no longer greyed out when the user account control box closes, the colours come back as un-profiled and then after about 5 seconds the icc profile is applied. I use the pantone huey pro colour profiler. I think this issue is not necessarily related to the first one.

My system specs are:

Asus P5k-VM with e6750 Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
4 x 1GB Geil RAM
On-board Intel G33 graphics
Samsung 500GB HD

Aero is turned on rates at 3.9 in the windows experience index.

Anyone know what might be up here? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Solution
It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with your screen behavior on your Windows 7 system, especially when the screen greys out and when using your color profiler. Here are a few suggestions to help resolve these issues:

Screen Going Black Before Showing Grey Box:

  • Driver Updates: Ensure that your graphics card driver is up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause display issues like the one you described.

Color Profile Issues:

  • Color Profile Delay: The delay in applying the ICC profile after the user account control box closes might be normal behavior depending on how Windows handles color profiles. However, you can try the following:

Color Profile Issues:

  • Color Profile Delay: The delay in applying the ICC profile after the user account control box closes might be normal behavior depending on how Windows handles color profiles. However, you can try the following:
    • Color Management Settings: Check if your color profile settings are correctly configured.
    • ICC Profile Loading: Ensure that the ICC profile is set to load correctly at system startup.
    • Color Profile Utility: Try running the Pantone Huey Pro color profiler utility again to reapply the profile and check if that helps.

      General Recommendations:

      • System Maintenance: Perform regular system maintenance tasks like disk cleanup, defragmentation, and checking for malware or unwanted software.
      • Hardware Check: Verify that all your hardware components are functioning correctly.

Potential Compatibility Issues:

  • Software Compatibility: Check for any known compatibility issues between the Pantone Huey Pro color profiler and Windows 7. You may need to update the software if there are compatibility issues.

    Additional Information:

  • If the issue persists, you may also want to consider reaching out to Pantone support for specific guidance on using their color profiling software on Windows 7.
Given that Windows 7 is an older operating system, some issues might be harder to resolve due to limited support. Upgrading to a newer Windows version might provide a smoother experience with the latest hardware and software compatibility.
