Hello, I've recently lost my boot drive to faulty wiring. Anyways, I got a new SSD and installed it, and put Windows 8 Pro on it, which I updated to 8.1 Pro. Anyways, the Serial Key for Windows 8.1 Pro that I bought isn't working anymore (presumably since I used it for this computer before my drive failed). So, in short, do I need to buy another serial key for my computer?

Thanks!

No you don't need a new key if the old drive has moved on to Windows heaven.

1. When you installed Windows 8 pro on this new drive, did it ask for a key or just boot to desk top with out asking you for 1?
2. Is the 8.1 pro key you purchased a upgrade key or full one?

If it is a legit key then yes it probably just is confused over the hardware change and I suggest you ring Microsoft… they typically can sort this out over the phone mate.
