I am trying to reload my laptop with WinXP after running Vista then Win 7 for a bit.
Toshiba Satellite.

After WinXP loads the startup files and tries to launch the startup application. BSOD...

I have used the Win7 disk in order to remove ALL partitions. So the disk is supposedly wiped clean.
But I cant get WinXP to launch the setup program.

Error message talks about virus or new hardware that may be installed. But its a laptop with no new hardware and the disk has no partitions on it...

Anyone else seen this before ?

Solution
It sounds like you are encountering a common issue when trying to install Windows XP on a computer that previously had newer versions of Windows installed, like Windows Vista and Windows 7. The problem likely stems from Windows XP lacking support for some newer hardware components and disk configurations introduced after its release. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Check SATA Mode in BIOS: - Some laptops have the SATA mode set to AHCI or RAID instead of IDE. Windows XP may not recognize these modes during installation. Check your BIOS settings and switch the SATA mode to IDE if available. 2. Install SATA Drivers: - If changing the SATA mode is not an option, you may...

Windows XP may not recognize these modes during installation. Check your BIOS settings and switch the SATA mode to IDE if available. 2. Install SATA Drivers: - If changing the SATA mode is not an option, you may need to load SATA drivers during the Windows XP installation. Toshiba's website should have the necessary drivers for your specific model. 3. Enable Legacy USB Support: - In some cases, disabling USB legacy support in BIOS may help with the installation. 4. Check for BIOS Updates: - Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Newer BIOS versions might offer better compatibility with older operating systems like Windows XP. 5. Run a Disk Check: - Although you've removed partitions, there could still be remnants causing issues. Use a tool like GParted or DiskPart to completely wipe the disk before attempting the Windows XP installation. 6. Compatibility Mode: - Try running the Windows XP setup in compatibility mode or using a virtual machine to install Windows XP within a newer operating system. 7. Hardware Issues: - Check for any new hardware changes or malfunctions in your laptop, like faulty RAM or hard drive issues, which could potentially cause installation problems. If you've tried these steps and are still encountering issues, it might be worth considering if there are any other underlying hardware problems or incompatibilities causing the BSOD during the Windows XP setup. Feel free to try these suggestions, and let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any other obstacles during the installation process.
