Recently there has been some debate on the legality on the buying and selling of Microsoft activation key's. Luckily for us Microsoft are quite clear about this:

Users may have bought keys that work but basically they are not legal.

The stance on buying and selling Microsoft activation keys is clear as per Microsoft's guidelines. Microsoft does not distribute product keys as standalone products, except for Product Key Cards (PKC’s) that are distributed with Certificate of Authenticity (COA’s). Purchasing product keys from unauthorized sources like auction sites, online classified ads, or other online platforms could lead to several issues:
  • The keys might be stolen or counterfeit.
  • It may not work for activation.
  • The key could already be in use on another PC.
  • Microsoft may block the key if reported stolen.
To ensure a legitimate and trouble-free activation process, Microsoft recommends purchasing genuine Windows licenses directly. It's important to be cautious about where you acquire product keys from, as using unauthorized keys can lead to activation problems and legal concerns. Any threads or posts related to the selling of keys on forums may be edited or removed as they could be considered spam due to the nature of these activities.
