Also the laptop is eligible for the windows 10 update. How do I transfer the data to an ssd and keep the hard drive as a backup with windows 7 still on it?
Clone the hdd to the ssd and then do the update from the cloned drive?

I don't think wx will have a good driver for this so take that into account.
don't clone a normal hdd onto a ssd.
I would remove the drive, then install w7 on the new drive and then upgrade that to wx... this path keeps the old hdd compleat in case you don't like wx.
p.s in fact i would prob just grab an old hdd from the recycle center and install a tem w7 on that... then do a fresh install later if I want to stay with wx.
