Hi folks - Windows 7 newbie and first time poster here. Link Removed - Invalid URL

I turned on IIS and configured a web site with no problem. However, adding an FTP site always produces an "Authentication Required" window when testing. Tried multiple combinations including "Anonymous/Basic" turned OFF (not selected / not enabled). "HomeGroup Connnections" is set to "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers" - however, I also tried "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections". I am using the Norton Security Suite as provided by Comcast but I do not see where it can be causing this problem because I temporarily turned it (the Norton Firewall) off and I still was prompted for the "Authentication Required".

Your solution is much appreciated. Thank you!

Solution
It seems like you're encountering an issue with setting up an FTP site on Windows 7 and experiencing authentication problems. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this authentication required error:

Possible Solutions:

  1. Check FTP Authorization Settings:
    • Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    • Navigate to your FTP site.
    • Check the "Authorization Rules" to ensure that the appropriate permissions are set for users.
    • Verify that the authentication methods are configured correctly (e.g., Anonymous Authentication, Basic Authentication).
    []Windows Firewall Settings:
    • Temporarily disable the Windows Firewall to see if it is causing the authentication issue. If disabling...

    []Windows Firewall Settings:
    • Temporarily disable the Windows Firewall to see if it is causing the authentication issue. If disabling the firewall resolves the problem, you may need to create a firewall rule to allow FTP traffic through.
    [
    ]Norton Security Suite:
    • Even though you've temporarily disabled Norton Security Suite's firewall, it's worth checking if there are any specific settings related to FTP traffic or if Norton's security features are still affecting the FTP connection.
    []Passive FTP Configuration:
    • Try toggling between active and passive FTP modes in the FTP site settings to see if it makes a difference in the authentication process.
    [
    ]User Account Permissions:
    • Ensure that the user accounts you are using to access the FTP site have the necessary permissions set up both in Windows and in IIS.
    []Check FTP Logs:
    • Review the FTP logs in IIS to see if there are any specific error messages that could provide more insight into the authentication issue.
    [
    ]Port Forwarding:
    • If you are accessing the FTP site from outside your local network, make sure that port forwarding is configured correctly on your router to forward FTP traffic to the appropriate internal IP address. By going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the authentication required issue you are facing when setting up an FTP site on Windows 7. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any specific error messages during the troubleshooting process.
