I have Windows 7 (64 bit) installed. I mistakenly shut my computer down using the sleep button a week ago. When I press the start button on my computer, I can see/here the computer starting. I get several lights on steady on my keyboard but the mouse and the monitor never seem to work. I have tried to make things work by pulling the power cord on the computer, holding the start button on the computer until it shuts down, and pushing the reset button but nothing seems to work. As a further point, before this problem occurred, during previous starts, a white on black question came up on the monitor asking me whether I wanted Windows Vista or Windows 7--I have no idea why. I would appreciate any help to get me to where the computer works normally again. Thank you in advance.

It seems like your computer is encountering some issues booting up properly after using the sleep button. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with your Windows 7 system:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Power Cycling:
    • Disconnect the power cord from your computer.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
    • Reconnect the power cord and try turning on your computer again.
    []BIOS Settings Check:
    • Access the BIOS settings when starting up your computer (usually by pressing a key like F2, Del, F12 - check your PC manual for the exact key).

    • Ensure that the correct boot drive (where Windows 7 is installed) is selected as the primary boot device.

    ]Safe Mode Boot:
    • Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly during startup.
    • In Safe Mode, you can troubleshoot potential driver or software issues that might be causing the problem.
    []System Restore:
    • If you can access Safe Mode, consider performing a System Restore to revert your system settings to a point before the issue occurred.
    [
    ]Repair Windows Installation:
    • You can try to repair your Windows 7 installation using the Windows 7 installation disc.
    • Boot from the installation disc and choose the repair option. Regarding the prompt to select between Windows Vista and Windows 7, it's unusual for that to appear during the startup process. It might indicate a configuration problem or a conflict in the boot process. Try these steps and let me know if any of them help resolve the issue. Feel free to provide any updates or additional information as needed.
