Hi

I have tried to seek a solution without success so I am hoping that someone can help.

Since installing Windows 7 I cannot see my External USB Hard Drive. It is a Astone 1TB External Hard Drive and the drive itself is a Western Digital WD10EAVS Hard Disk .

In Control Panel / Devices and Printers I can see two items under Devices

1 USB to Serial - ATA Bridge
2 WDC WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0 ATA Device

But I Cannot read data or see it as a "Normal Drive"

If I go to Disk Management I cannot see anything.

So, so frustrated. any suggestions are most welcome.

Cheers

Solution
Yea,

I see from the picture it's an external drive.

Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and see if there are any yellow flags under any devices, especially the USB Hub section

Try downloading this freeware utility for diagnosing USB devices:
USBDeview v1.47

Make sure to read the documentation here:
USBDeview - View all installed/connected USB devices on your system
Hello and welcome to the windows7forums.

Are you dual-booting.

Did this happen immediately after install?

Was this an upgrade or a "clean" install?
I've had similar issues.

I just pulled the power plug, the pulled out the USB cable.

Turned the power back on and plugged in the cable and I got the installing new hardware message and it showed up.

I'm assuming the WD is an internal drive?

How many hard drives do you have

Thanks Reghakr for such a prompt response.

Not dual booting

After installation I tried to connect via USB port and could not see Drive

Full Clean install

Machine is a Medion Akoya Notebook "C"

Not sure but I think the WD is associated with my External Drive which is a Western Digital WD10EAVS Hard Disk.

As suggested I pulled the power plug and took out the USB cable but still no success.

Not sure what else I can do. I have attached a screen print which I hope helps

Cheers and ThanksLink Removed due to 404 Error

Solution
windows.old

don't know for sure if this will help in your case, but I had the same problem with my Maxtor One Touch Mini. The way I finally got access to it was to copy its management software out of the Windows.old folder and run it. This only can work, of course, if you haven't deleted the Windows.old folder from the C drive.
