I have an HP desktop running windows basic 7. I also have an HP laptop running windows basic 7. I have a samsung wifi compatible divx player. I have the two computers networked together, and they communicate and do everything together that I need them to do. I have some videos I ripped on my laptop that I transfered to the desktop. The dvd player can see both computers, and can play the videos from the laptop computer. But when I try to play the same video from the home computer it comes up as an invalid or unrecognized file format.
I have both computers networked using the homegroup setting, both computers are sharing the folders or drives where the videos are located. The desktop I went through and shared each individual video file, but on the laptop I never had to do that. I have tried everything I can think of, but I know I am just missing some little thing here. Any Ideas??

Solution
It sounds like you have a network setup where both your HP desktop and laptop running Windows 7 are able to communicate with each other and with your Samsung Wi-Fi compatible DivX player. The issue you're facing seems to be related to accessing and playing videos from your desktop on the DivX player. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Check File Format Compatibility: - Confirm that the video file format on your desktop is supported by the Samsung DivX player. Sometimes certain video formats may not be recognized by specific devices. 2. Check File Sharing Permissions: - Double-check the sharing settings on both computers to ensure that the video files on the desktop are...

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Check File Format Compatibility: - Confirm that the video file format on your desktop is supported by the Samsung DivX player. Sometimes certain video formats may not be recognized by specific devices. 2. Check File Sharing Permissions: - Double-check the sharing settings on both computers to ensure that the video files on the desktop are shared with appropriate permissions. It's possible that the sharing settings on the desktop are restricting access to the files. 3. Update Codecs: - Install or update the necessary video codecs on your desktop to ensure that the video files can be played on other devices without any format issues. Codecs help in decoding and playing various video formats. 4. Transcoding: - If the video files on the desktop are in a format not supported by the DivX player, consider transcoding them to a more universally compatible format. Tools like HandBrake can help in converting video formats. 5. Network Permissions: - Make sure that the network permissions are set up correctly, allowing the DivX player to access the shared folders on both computers. 6. Firewall Settings: - Check the firewall settings on both computers. Sometimes, firewall settings can block the access to certain files or services. Temporarily disable the firewall to test if it's causing the issue. 7. File Path Length: - Ensure that the file path of the videos on the desktop is not too long. Some devices have limitations on reading files with long paths. 8. Update Device Firmware: - Check if there are any firmware updates available for your Samsung DivX player. Updated firmware might add support for additional file formats or fix compatibility issues. By going through these steps, you may be able to identify and address the issue that is preventing the DivX player from playing videos from your HP desktop.
