Windows 7 Choose default program

When I go under Open With and select Choose default Program I get this message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel. "

Now it does this with whatever file I try to do Choose default Program, also when I try to view a jpg in a winrar file it opens in notepad.

Everything else works fine, if I double click a file it opens normally. This all started when I installed AVG 2011, uninstalling doesn't work and I don't have a system restore that will go far back enough to fix this. So any ideas short of reinstalling?

After you uninstall AVG 2011 through the control panel make sure to run the AVG uninstall clean up to remove all last traces. You can find a link through here: Link Removed.
