Windows 10 Deleting search history

I recently visited a website where I was searching for a specific book title and I found it odd that when I keyed in the first letter of the title a list of past search words appeared in the list such as names, places, foods etc. In fact, this has happened a few times when I've done searches online. Past words/terms appear in the search field which suggests these words have been saved somewhere in memory.

I understand how to delete my search history but clearly segments of these searches remain. How can I delete these search words/terms permanently?

Thank you.

Depends on the browser and search provider. These terms can be a blend of your previous searches plus what other people search for. In browser terms it's a feature typically called 'search prediction'

Does this mean it can be done or cannot?
I myself only use Chrome.

Thanks
